Five Piece Antique Tableware Courting Couple
The Fragonard Love Story Courting Couple Motif
Inspired from the work of artist Jean Honore Fragonard (1732-1806). Fragonard was a French painter of the Rococo style who was popular in the latter half of the 18th Century, around the time of Marie Antoinette, Louis XV and Louis XVI.
The couple are in a woodland pastoral setting, the lady is sitting on a stone bench. Behind her is a stone arched wall that is slightly overgrown by woodland shrubs. She offers the gentleman some flowers out of a flower basket, which presumably she has picked on her walk. The gentleman is standing in front of the lady serenading her with a guitar. Across the bottom on the left side of the motif is signed “Fragonard.”
