The Imperial Model 50 typewriter was designed by Arthur Bott Pateman for the Imperial Typewriter Company and made in Leicester, England.

The design was patented in various countries in 1925 and 1926 and production began in 1927.

The Imperial model 50 series was constructed in such a way that the machine could be disassembled into three main parts in just a couple of steps without tools: the roll, the carriage and the keyboard. This was very convenient for maintenance and cleaning or greasing.
